Froedtert Today August 2012 Volume 17, Issue 3 FROEDTERT HEALTH PRESIDENT/CEO from the president/ceo Cathy Jacobson EDITOR Kathleen McCann CONTRIBUTORS Leigh Amrhein Jonathan Bock, MD Karen Brasel, MD Matthew Goldblatt, MD Jon Gould, MD Mark Klingbeil, MD Colleen Lawton, MD Karl Raaum Jason Roberts, MD Susan Sanson, MS Christopher Schultz, MD Erika Smith, PharmD James Wallace, MD, PhD Marjorie Wang, MD Travis Webb, MD John Weigelt, MD Success is the Trust Each Patient Places in Us am very proud to be the president and new chief executive officer of Froedtert Health. It is a remarkable organization. I’ve been working at Froedtert Health for the past several years, adding the role of CEO in July. I know I have big shoes to fill following Bill Petasnick. I’m fortunate that Bill will continue to help shape Froedtert Health, as vice chairman of the board of directors. I know he will continue to work for health care reform in this country as a consultant and thought leader. My mother is a nurse and my first job in high school was working in our community hospital kitchen. I never thought my professional career would involve working in a hospital setting because my interests were in finance and accounting. After receiving an accounting degree, I worked at a firm where Rush University Medical Center in Chicago was a major client. I spent 22 years at Rush in a variety of roles. There, the passion for taking care of patients that my mother emphasized my whole life made a personal connection with me. We are living in turbulent times for health care with health care and insurance reform, an aging population and government programs that are financially unsustainable. Everywhere, health care has become too expensive. Froedtert Health is developing innovative strategies to reduce costs while continuing to provide the best experience for patients. We also are collaborating with other health care organizations to expand our geographic reach so that more people can access care in their community and be connected to eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin. Froedtert Health has proven that we can adapt and flourish in times of great change, and we are well-positioned for future success. We are one of the top workplaces, and our patients give us consistently high marks. Thanks to our long-standing partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin, we are pioneering better medicine and drawing patients from around the world. The ultimate measure of our success is the trust each patient places in us. Whether we work in a hospital kitchen, as a nurse, administrator, physician, clinician or assistant, our patients are the fuel that keeps all of us motivated, focused and ready to meet each day’s challenges.
